So easy, totally coming back!

Got a Data Only SIM for my trip and it was fantastic! Super fast data, never had a problem. Setup was a breeze, just popped it in my phone. Will definitely use CDJapan Rental again next time I'm in Japan!

Good unlimited data pocket WiFi

I rented the Unlimited Data Pocket WiFi for a two-week trip last month. Ordering was straightforward on their site, no fuss. I picked it up at Narita Airport, which was super convenient right after customs. The device itself was reliable; I had solid 4G LTE coverage throughout Tokyo and Kyoto, even used it for some video calls without issues. Battery life was decent, usually lasted me most of the day before needing a charge. Returning it was easy too, just used the included envelope at a post box. Support responded quickly when I had a question about extending my rental, though I ended up not needing to.

Decent SIM, bit slow sometimes

I ordered a Data Only SIM for my recent trip to Japan. The online process was pretty smooth, and it arrived at my hotel front desk a day before I did, which was nice. Data worked well for the most part in cities like Osaka and Hiroshima. However, when I was up in some mountain towns, the speed dropped noticeably and sometimes it was hard to load maps. Customer service was helpful when I asked about coverage in specific areas. Value for money was good, but the rural coverage could be a bit better. Overall, it got the job done for the price.

Is the unlimited data actually unlimited? Or do they slow you down after a certain point like some other companies?

J Julia Bennett 1 month ago
I used them for two weeks in Tokyo and Kyoto, downloaded stuff, streamed videos, never hit any slowdowns. Seemed genuinely unlimited to me.

It's true unlimited for the 4G/5G plans. I've had friends use them extensively without issues. Just don't go trying to torrent movies non-stop, lol.

Thinking about getting a SIM card from here instead of the pocket wifi, is the eSIM option easy to set up for an iPhone?

B Beth 2 months ago
eSIMs are usually super straightforward. You get a QR code and just scan it in your phone settings. Takes literally a minute.

Yeah, if your phone supports eSIM, it's the easiest way to go. No physical card to mess with. Just make sure your phone is unlocked first.

Are returns complicated? Like, do I have to ship it back internationally myself or is there an easy way?

M Marcus Foster 2 months ago
Nah, they include a return envelope. You just drop it in any Japanese post box before you fly out. Super simple.

Returns were easy, you just use the provided envelope and mail it from Japan. Don't stress about it, it's part of their service.

Planning a trip for cherry blossom season next year, do these guys ever have sales or discount codes around that time?

J Jared Q. 1 month ago
They often do! I got a pretty sweet deal during a 'spring campaign' a couple years ago. Keep an eye outcloser to the dates.

Yep, seasonal campaigns are a thing. Also look for early bird stuff, sometimes they offer discounts if you book way in advance.

Hey, I'm flying into Narita next month. Anyone know if I can pick up my pocket wifi right at the airport or do I have to wait for delivery?

D Derek Beaumont 2 months ago
Yeah, you can pick it up at Narita. I did it last year, was super easy to find the counter.

They have airport pickup for sure, I think it's usually at the post office or a specific counter depending on the terminal. Check their site, it'll tell you the exact spot.
